Working Parties and start dates
Working parties are planned for the walling alongside the access road on Sundays throughout August. Anyone who can spare an hour or two to help is welcome. For start times and details please contact Dave Moore on 663680.
Scott Stephenson's team hopes to begin work on the building by the end of September.
Planning permission and grants obtained for renewable energy
Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority has granted planning permission for renewable energy sources in the form of an air-source heat pump and solar panels, to provide heat and power for the pavilion. In a separate decision, the YDNPA approved a grant application for £20,409 to install the energy equipment. This figure represents 75% of the total cost the kit and installation. A big thank you to Parks for their support.
Work continues on Access Road
Work began on the access road on Thursday 1st July. The entrance from the main road has been cleared and gravel was laid. Topsoil and rocks were moved in the field leading to the football pitch and a group of volunteers demolished the stone wall at the top of the field. Alastair Dinsdale has cleared the route and the highway contractor, Andrew Wise, has now laid the drainage pipes and tarmac at the entrance. It is hoped that the stone wall construction around the road entrance will begin soon. Click here for a quick photo montage.

William Hague agrees to lay foundation stone
William
Hague MP has agreed to lay the foundation stone for the new pavilion providing
a mutually acceptable date can be found later in the year. In a letter to
Playing Fields Treasurer, Tracey Lambert, he expressed himself as “delighted to
be asked” and said he was very pleased to hear of the success of the
fundraising campaign.

The old changing hut on the Playing Fields was finally demolished on Sunday 16th May. A group of villagers broke up the fabric of the building after Dave Moore and his trusty tractor had pushed over the structure. The surrounding concrete base has also been lifted and broken up.
At the beginning of the year we were hopeful that work could be started on the access road, but the poor weather caused a delay. During this period more money was raised through the Burns Night event, two concerts and the Golf Day that collectively added over £2,500 to the Pavilion Fund. Additionally, two further grants helped to push the project further forward. The Richmondshire District Council grant of £10,000 that was first mentioned last year was finally approved and, most significantly, a generous promise of £50,000 came from Jane Ritchie’s Elm House Trust. This latter sum is to be spread over two years with £25000 dedicated to the building of the watertight shell in Phase 2 and the other £25000 being used to complete the fitting out of the building in Phase 3. The delay in beginning the access road has also proved beneficial, as a grant of £9000 has been secured from the Lottery organisation for the purpose of laying the road. Had work already begun, the money would not have been forthcoming. This increase in funding was decisive in allowing the Pavilion Development Group to re-start the tendering process for the phased development project. After a rigorous, objective and open process the contract for constructing the watertight shell has been given to a joint bid from Scott Stephenson and Chris Peacock. Dave Moore from the Pavilion Development Group will oversee the work.
It is intended that the access road and site clearance will begin by the end of May. These tasks will be undertaken by volunteers and this work will be followed by the construction of the watertight shell in Phase 2. It is hoped that renewable energy sources in the form of an air or ground-source heat pump and solar panels will provide heat and power for the pavilion. These can be installed with the aid of various grants and the generation of solar electricity means that the government will pay us to use and generate our own electricity for the next 25 years.
Fingers crossed – we’re nearly there!
With finances in mind, the PavilionDevelopment group would like to thank all those who have pledged money through
the Personal Subscription Scheme. These donations will be needed in the near
future and the Treasurer will be in touch with you shortly.
Carperby Pavilion Fund Appeal Lifetime Subscription Scheme
It has been suggested that, as part of the fundraising activities for the new Pavilion, a personal subscription scheme should be made available for those who wish to make a donation. This would be a single gift, with a minimum donation of £50. In return for a donation of between £50 and £249.99, each subscriber will be entitled to have their name displayed on a commemorative plaque that will be displayed in the pavilion once it is completed.
Anyone who wishes to donate £250 or more will be granted the use of the pavilion for personal/family occasions free of charge for life, and will have their name on the commemorative plaque.
Anyone who wishes to subscribe to the scheme can do so by contacting Tracey Lambert, Oatcroft Cottage, Carperby (01969 663651) or Nick Oliver on 01969 663179. No money will be requested from any individual until such time as the remaining funds are in place to complete the project. All donations will be held in strict confidence.
